DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team finally bounced back from a two-game losing streak by defeating Upper Midwest Athletic Conference rival Northwestern College by a score of 4-1 on Saints Field in Duluth, Minn.

The Saints broke out to an early 3-0 first-half lead on the back of three goals within the first 25 minutes of the contest. Defender #Ellyn Litecky# (Jr.-Duluth, Minn./East HS) opened up the scoring when #Angie Groh# (Jr.-Andover, Minn./St. Francis HS) set her up with a pass through traffic that Litecky booted past the diving Northwestern goalkeeper, Morgan Rhonda. Groh assisted on each of the Saints' four goals on the night, which tied a school record.

#Jen Krokum# (So.-Duluth, Minn./East HS) netted her third goal of the season ten minutes later off a similar play, and #Sarah Bartlette# (Jr.-East Grand Forks, Minn.) netted her second of the season just three minutes after that. Along with Groh, #Sara Olson# (Sr.-Phoenix, Ariz./Paradise Valley CC) assisted on both of their goals.

The Saints scoring leader, #Robin Johnson# (Sr.-Duluth, Minn./Marshall School), scored her seventh goal of the season, also assisted by Groh and Olson, in the 59th minute after breaking through two defenders for a swift shot past Rhonda.

Northwestern answered with a goal ten minutes later by Kyrie Jorgenson, the team's first of the season, but it was too little, too late for the Eagles. CSS goalkeeper #Bailey Mahlum# (Fr.-Bismark, N.D.) earned the win in goal, and her fellow 'keeper #Erin Olejnicak# (Fr.-Brainerd, Minn.) closed out the final minutes of the game for her with two saves.

The Saints, who had 19 players with in-game action, stood strong on defense throughout the game, allowing only three shots on net. The Saints took seven of their own on net, but finished with 13 total shots.

The Saints will look to start a winning streak tomorrow as they take on another UMAC rival, the Crown College Storm, at 2 p.m. on Saints Field.
