MENOMONIE, Wis. – The St. Scholastica volleyball team went on the road and defeated its second Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opponent in a row with a 3-1 victory tonight over the University of Wisconsin-Stout at Johnson Fieldhouse.
The win gives the Saints a 3-7 overall record. The Blue Devils drop to 2-8 overall and have now lost six straight matches. CSS is 5-8 all-time against UW-Stout.
The Blue Devils came out and took the first set narrowly by a score of 26-24. Stout had 17 kills in the set. It was all CSS in the second set as the Saints won by a score of 25-13. The Saints had just seven kills in the set, but held the Blue Devils to a -.080 attack percentage.
St. Scholastica had its best set of match in the third set with a .314 attack percentage and 14 kills to win by a score of 25-21. CSS then trailed late in the fourth set, but would not be denied and took the set 26-24 to win the match.
#Amy Thompson# (Sr.-Onamia, Minn.) led the Saints with 15 kills, while #Shawna Varichak# (Sr.-Hibbing, Minn.) added 11 kills. #Caitlin Aten# (Fr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) had 39 assists and #Cassie Roden# (Sr.-Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral) had a team-high 19 digs.
The Saints will take part in the Northwestern College Quad on Saturday. CSS will first face Gustavus Adolphus at 11 a.m. and then Hamline University at 1 p.m.
