ASHLAND, Wis. – In the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opener, the St. Scholastica women's soccer team dropped Northland College 3-1 today at Northland Field.
The Saints improve to 5-0-0 overall and have won 18 consecutive regular season games. CSS has also won 45 straight regular season games against UMAC opponents. The LumberJills fall to 1-2-0 overall. The Saints are 22-3 versus Northland all-time and have won 16 straight over the Jills.
After a scoreless 40 minutes of play, CSS got on the board when #Robin Johnson# (Sr.-Duluth, Minn./Marshall) kept her scoring streak alive with a goal at 40:47 to make the score 1-0. Johnson has scored in every contest this season and has six goals on the year. #Nicole Brandt# (So.-Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) had the assist. The Saints took the 1-0 lead into the half and out-shot Northland 9-1 in the first half.
It didn't take the Saints long to extend the lead in the second half as #Sarah Bartlette# (Jr.-East Grand Forks, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's) scored an unassisted goal less than two minutes in to make it 2-0. Less than five minutes later #Sara Olson# (Sr.-Phoenix, Ariz.) hit one into the back of the net to give CSS a 3-0 advantage. #Jen Krokum# (Jr.-Duluth, Minn./East) had the assist on the goal. The Jills added a goal in the 76th minute, but the Saints took the match by a score of 3-1.
#Bailey Mahlum# (Fr.-Bismarck, N.D.) had one save to earn the win for the Saints and improve to 5-0-0. Brittany Ballwanz had seven saves in the loss for Northland. St. Scholastica had a 14-4 shot advantage in the match.
The Saints return home on Saturday when they host Augsburg College at 3 p.m. at Saints Field. A CSS alumnae match will take place immediately following that contest.
