Visiting Bethany Lutheran College wasn't much of a match for St. Scholastica on Saturday morning in the Burns Wellness Commons, falling to the Saints by a 9-0 score as the host team dropped only 10 games of the six singles and three doubles matches in the UMAC match-up.
The Saints (9-8, 3-0 UMAC) broke ahead 3-0 over the Vikings (0-7, 0-2 UMAC) behind a trio of doubles victories.
Peter Sparby (North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Brady Vidovic (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) breezed to an easy 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles, then Scott Hawley (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and Brendan Anderson (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) won an 8-2 decision at No. 1. When Will Ruckel (Anoka, Minn./Anoka Senior HS) and Ryan LaCoursiere (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) won out 8-3 at No. 2, the Saints were ahead by three points and on a roll.
Four singles matches ended with Saints winning 6-0, 6-0, and in the other two singles match-ups Bethany was only able to capture a combined five games in defeat.
The men will be back in action following a women's match between the Saints and Martin Luther College when they take on the men from Martin Luther in The Burns late in the afternoon.
