The UMAC Crossover in Rosemount, Minn., proved to be a welcome respite for St. Scholastica as the indoor carpet at the Irish Dome was just what the doctor ordered for the outdoor schedule-challenged Saints as they closed the weekend with their fourth win in four games by defeating Presentation College 10-1 in five innings.
Kayla Jenkins (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) pitched the opening pair of innings for the Saints and held Presentation to only a hit and a walk while striking out three to eventually earn the win that brings her season record to 8-9.
St. Scholastica jumped ahead early in the game with three runs each in both the first and second innings.
Senior Kayla Kahilainen (New York Mills, Minn./New York Mills HS) put on a hitting show one more time in the Irish Dome going 3-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored. For the four-game weekend Kahilainen finished 10-for-14 with 12 RBI, scored six times and hit a pair of home runs.
Gina Garramone (Duluth, Minn./Moorhead Senior HS) had three hits of her own in the win over Presentation and collected a pair of RBI herself.
The Saints proved to be deadly on the base paths as well as at the plate and on the mound as they stole six bases without getting thrown out once.
Now 14-19 overall and 13-5 in the UMAC, the team will close out their regular season with a Senior Day game against visiting Northland College on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. followed by the regular season closer, a doubleheader, against Crown College on Wednesday.
