At the plate it was sophomore Sean Claugherty (Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS)'s pair of homers and on the mound it was Peter Burg (St. Joseph, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral)'s two-hit gem as St. Scholastica pounded out a 10-1 win in a rain-shortened six innings over the host Eagles from Northwestern College on Friday afternoon in St. Paul.
Burg allowed only a solo home run and single to the Eagles while striking out eight without surrendering a walk in picking up his sixth win of the season against no losses.
The junior transfer received all the offense he would need from Claugherty's fourth and fifth homers of the season, but for good measure senior teammate Darrin Carlson (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) slammed his first career home run as a Saint in the third inning and senior catcher Mike Lewis (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) added a pair of doubles that brought in four more St. Scholastica runs.
The win improved the Saints -- winners of 12 of their last 13 -- to 4-0 in the UMAC and 16-3 overall while Northwestern drops to 4-2 in conference action and 5-16 overall.
The two teams finish their regular season series on Saturday with a scheduled doubleheader that is set to begin at Noon.
