The Fighting Bees from St. Ambrose (Iowa) University ended the Saints season-best three-match win streak with a 5-4 win in Orlando on Wednesday morning.
St. Ambrose broke out to a 2-1 lead after doubles action as Ryan LaCoursiere (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) and Will Ruckel (Anoka, Minn./Anoka Senior HS) picked up a point for the Saints with their 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
The match was a see-saw battle in singles play as St. Scholastica and St. Ambrose split the six singles matches to allow the Bees to come away with the win.
Scott Hawley (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) at No. 2, Peter Sparby (North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View HS) at No. 5, and Joe Vidmar at No. 6 earned singles wins for the Saints in the loss as St. Scholastica falls to a season mark of 5-7.
