It's been 13 days since the Saints took to the courts for competitive action but Saturday morning's 7-2 win over Division-II Bemidji State showed their wasn't any rust growing on the defending UMAC champions.

With a second match scheduled for later in the afternoon at the Burns Wellness Commons against conference foe Northwestern, the Saints (9-5) juggled their line-up a bit for the 8 a.m. match against the Beavers (3-11).

Senior Casey Ruberto (Thunder Bay, Ont./Hammarskjold HS) slid up to the No. 1 singles spot and picked up a quick 6-3, 6-2 win over Kali Welu. Also moving up a few slots was Katrina Sacchetti (Virginia, Minn./Virginia Secondary) who earned an even faster win at No. 2, defeating Kristen Lexcen 6-2, 6-1.

Angela Shields (Pengilly, Minn./Greenway HS) moved up from her usual No. 6 singles spot to add a win at No. 4, while teammates Danni Sonnenfeld (Harris, Minn./North Branch HS) at No. 5 and Katie Kuitenen at No. 6 each picked up wins in their first matches of the season.

The Saints singles play closed out the win after moving out to a 2-1 lead in doubles action. Paula Beckermann (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) and Katie Motley (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) won at No. 1, and Lynnae Wilke (Parkers Prairie, Minn./Parkers Prairie HS) teamed with Brooke Aho (Long Prairie, Minn./Long Prairie) to add a win at No. 3.

Following a men's match against Northwestern that begins at noon, the St. Scholastica women will entertain the Eagles women in the UMAC opener for each team.
