The Central (Iowa) College Dutch pounded out 14 hits in a 16-5 win over the Saints on Saturday afternoon at the St. Louis Invitational.
Central (10-6) jumped on Saints starting pitcher Kayla Jenkins (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) for five runs in the top of the first then four more in the second, but St. Scholastica (1-13) chipped away with runs of their own in four of the first five innings to enter the sixth still within striking distance behind only 10-5.
Six Dutch runs -- all unearned -- in the top of the sixth, though, put an end to any Saints come-back hopes before they even got started.
Jenkins (1-7) took the loss for the Saints while Central starter Megan Swingen (3-0) earned the win scattering six St. Scholastica hits while allowing five earned runs.
Freshman Mya Gordon (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) and junior Gina Garramone (Duluth, Minn./Moorhead Senior HS) had multi-hit games for the Saints in the losing effort, each collecting a pair of hits in the Invitational closer for St. Scholastica.
