A precarious 1-run lead over the Saints blossomed to a 6-run lead in the later innings as Wis.-River Falls defeated St. Scholastica 7-1 late Friday night at the Irish Dome in Rosemount, Minn.

The Saints (0-3) had cut an early 2-0 Falcons lead in half in the top of the fifth after a lead off single by starting pitcher Mary Jo McNamee (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba Senior HS) turned into a run on a Chelsey Weiss (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS) 2-out single.

But River Falls picked up two runs off reliever Kayla Jenkins (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) in the bottom of the fifth with a 2-run double then added three more in the bottom of the sixth when Mindy Rudiger slammed a 3-run home run over the center field fence off Jenkins.

McNamee (0-2) took the loss for the Saints after pitching four complete innings and surrendering 2 runs, 1 unearned, on only 2 hits and a walk, while striking out 3.

Jenkins pitched the final two innings and gave up 5 earned runs on 5 hits and 2 walks.

Rudiger (1-0) picked up the win for the Falcons pitching a complete game allowing 1 run on 6 hits. She struck out 8 Saints in the game.
