The Saints began their spring break swing into Texas with a 9-2 loss to Cornell (Iowa) College on Sunday afternoon in Dallas.
Chelsey Weiss (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS) started the game off with a single then later scored to give the Saints a 1-0 lead but that was short-lived as Cornell tied the game with a run of their own in the bottom of the 1st, then scored eight more unanswered runs over the next three innings.
St. Scholastica scored once again in the top of the 5th but it did little to change the outcome as Cornell's Ashton Horne and Kim Traylor combined to shut down the Saints allowing only two runs on four hits and two walks while combining for five strikeouts in the Rams (4-4) win.
CSS starter Kayla Jenkins (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) (0-2) took the loss surrendering nine runs -- two unearned -- on 12 hits and a walk while striking out eight.
