The Saints tried to keep up the momentum from their pair of third period goals that won Friday night's game by rolling into Wis.-Eau Claire and getting off to a good start in Saturday night's Northern Collegiate Hockey Association contest.

Mission accomplished...sort of.

With six minutes left in the first period St. Scholastica's Jeff Gagnon (Quesnel, British Columbia/Victoria (BCHL)) netted his second goal of the season to give the visiting Saints a 1-0 lead. Joey Martini (Calgary, Alberta/Canmore (AJHL)) and Matt Stengl (East Grand Forks, Minn./Selkirk (MJHL)) -- who had the game-winning goal on Friday at Wis.-Stevens Point -- assisted on the opening score.

Though out shot 16 to 3 in the second frame, the Saints kept their momentum and increased the lead with a Trevor Geiger (Salmon Arm, British Columbia/Salmon Arm (BCHL)) goal midway through the period. Stengl continued his points streak with the lone assist on Geiger's eighth goal of the season.

All that was left was for the Saints to close the deal in the third period, and they almost made it.

Eau Claire scored 7:40 into the final stanza to cut the lead to one but with time winding past the 19 minute mark the Saints looked to have the road win in hand.

But a late whistle at the 19:23 mark sent Kelly Reynolds (Parksville, British Columbia/Cowichan Valley (BCHL)) into the penalty box and the Blugolds not only had a man-advantage but also pulled their goalie to give them a two-man advantage for the final seconds.

With just 7 ticks left on the game clock, Eau Claire finally got the tying goal past Saints netminder Tyler Johnson (East Grand Forks, Minn./East Grand Forks HS) who had been stellar in goal all game, stopping 32 of the 33 shots he'd faced before Sean Garrity's last second shot in the third.

Both teams had their opportunities in the overtime as Johnson and his counterpart on the other end of the ice, Blugolds goalie Tyler Brigl, each made three saves to preserve the tie.

Johnson finished with 35 saves while Brigl stopped 17 of the 19 shots he faced.

The draw moves the St. Scholastica record to 9-12-3 overall and 4-7-2 in the NCHA. Eau Claire ends the night 9-14-1 and 5-7-1.
