The last time Wis.-Stevens Point lost was 12 games ago, a 5-0 defeat at the hands of host St. Scholastica.

Friday night on UWSP's home ice in Willet Arena the Saints picked up a 2-1 road win to sweep the season series and stop the Pointers unbeaten run.

Steven's Point (14-6-3, 5-5-2 NCHA) jumped ahead early in the first period with a power play score 6:18 into the game.

That was the only blemish on Saints goalie Steve Bounds (Airdrie, Alberta/Powell River (BCHL))' night as he stonewalled the Pointers the rest of the way, finishing up with 30 saves in earning the win in net for CSS (9-12-2, 4-7-1 NCHA).

Down 1-0 entering the third, and trailing in shots 23 to 19, the Saints used a pressing, swarming attack in an attempt to even the game up.

Only 4:35 into the final period, St. Scholastica's Jordan Chong (North Vancouver, British Columbia/Dryden (SIJHL)) scored his ninth of the season to pull the Saints even at 1-1. A.J. Tucker (15th) and Kyle Luschinski (Headingley, Manitoba/Waywayseecappo (MJHL)) (9th) registered the assists on the score.

The attack pressed on and only 2:06 later Matt Stengl (East Grand Forks, Minn./Selkirk (MJHL)) stuffed the puck past UWSP goalie Tom Speer to give the Saint their first lead of the game.

The 1,338 fans at Willett Arena were briefly silenced as a game that had been going along in their favor, at least on the scoreboard, was suddenly turned upside down.

The excitement would build for the teams and fans as, with 2:29 to play, the Saints were whistled for a penalty -- the only call in the final period -- and Stevens Point not only had a man-advantage but at the 1:29 mark they pulled their goalie and skated with a two-man advantage.

The Saints and Bounds held the Pointers attack at bay, though, and captured a conference win that ended a two game losing streak in which the Saints failed to score a single goal.

Shot totals favored the Saints in the end with a 34 to 31 lead.

Bounds' win improves his season mark to 6-6-1. Speers finished with 32 saves on 34 shots in taking the loss in net for Stevens Point, losing only his third game of this season (12-3-3).
