The Blugolds from Wis.-Eau Claire (3-1) powered their way to an 8-1 victory over St. Scholastica (0-2) on Saturday morning on the courts of the Gold's Gym Tennis Center in St. Cloud, Minn.

Dillon Sterle (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) picked up the lone win for the Saints earning a three-set victory over Steve Lantz from UWEC in the No. 1 singles position. Sterle took the first set 7-6 with a 7-4 tie-break win, dropped the second set 2-6, then rebounded to win the super tie-breaker third set 1-0 (10-5).

Ryan LaCoursiere (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) at No. 6 singles came close to adding a second win for the Saints, bouncing back from a 4-6 opening set loss to knot things up with a 6-2 win in the second. Brett Burleigh from Eau Claire fought LaCoursiere off 10-6 to capture the third set super tie-breaker for the match win, though.

The Saints will close out their opening weekend with an afternoon match against Concordia-Moorhead at the Gold's Center.
