FIRST WIN OF SEASON COMES AGAINST COBBERS

The Saints earned their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Concordia-Moorhead by a 6-3 score on the neutral courts of the Gold's Gym Tennis Center in St. Cloud, Minn.

St. Scholastica (1-2) picked up four singles wins and two doubles victories in the match against the Cobbers (1-2).

Nemanja Radosevic (New Belgrade, Serbia/Duluth Central HS) steamrolled to the win at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-0 thrashing of Matt Edin.

In contrast, Will Ruckel (Anoka, Minn./Anoka Senior HS) battled long and hard with Jordan Swanson of Concordia at No. 4 singles, rebounding from a 5-7 first set defeat to take the second set 6-1 and then the super tie-break third set 1-0 (10-6) for the win.

Ryan LaCoursiere (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) and Alex Rogers (Rochester, Minn./Century HS) added two more singles wins for the Saints at, respectively, the No. 5 and No. 6 slots.

Ruckel and LaCoursiere teamed up for one of the two doubles wins, taking the No. 3 spot by an 8-4 score. The other doubles win came from the No. 2 tandem of Scott Hawley (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and Brendan Alexander who captured the 9-8 win by winning the tie-break 7-5.
