Led by sophomore Megan Holmes (Gilbert, Minn./Mesabi East HS), St. Scholastica's women skated their way to a seventh place Freestyle finish in Saturday's NCAA/CCSA Regional at Giant's Ridge in Biwabik, Minn.
Holmes finished in 23rd place with a time of 17 minutes, 50.0 seconds, a little less than two minutes behind the leader, Aurelia Korthauer from Alaska-Fairbanks, who clocked a winning time of 15:55.0.
Right behind Holmes was freshman teammate Lindsay Wallis (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) finishing in 24th place (17:56.1). The third St. Schoalstica skier, freshman Julia Curry (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS), was 28th in a time of 18:04.6.
The trio combined for a team score of 32 points, finishing ahead of St. Olaf, Northland College, and St. Cloud State. The event was won by Northern Michigan with 82 points.
"The women skied solid [races]," said head coach Chad Salmela. "Competitive, and on the better side of their best races this year," he added.
Salmela and the women will hit the trails in Biwabik again on Sunday for the Classic race.
