St. Scholastica's women's Nordic team is closing out their 2007-08 season with a surge as the squad finished in third place at the Minnesota Collegiate Championships on the Graystone Trails in St. Cloud, Minn., on Saturday.
The pairing of Lindsay Wallis (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) and Megan Holmes (Gilbert, Minn./Mesabi East HS) finished 4th and the tandom of Julia Curry (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) and Nikki Duff was 8th helping St. Scholastica to finish ahead of St. Olaf and St. Cloud State.
Gustavus Adolphus captured the team title.
The championship combines a 5-kilometer Freestyle (skate) race with a 5K Classic event with each institution sending their team's off in pairs.
Wallis started off her sprint 5K skate race with a time of 13 minutes, 32 seconds. Holmes followed with a finish in 13:53 for a 'team' time of 27:25. In the Classic event, Wallis completed the 5K course in 15:09 while Holmes finished in 15:51.
Their total time of 58:25 was 3:44 behind the winning team from Gustavus.
Curry and Duff combined for a time of 28:39 in the Freestyle and 32:43 in the Classic for a cumulative clocking of 1 hour, 1.22 minutes.
Second place Saint Benedict's, St. Scholastica and fourth place St. Olaf each finished with 10 team points with the final places being determined by the highest finish by each of the team's pairings.
St. Ben's best tandom was 2nd overall, St. Scholastica's was 4th, and Olaf's was 5th, thereby setting the final team places.
