DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team picked up its first conference win of the season with a 77-51 victory this afternoon over Crown College at Reif Gym.

The Saints improve to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The Storm fall to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the UMAC. CSS has won all 19 meetings against Crown.

#Kirsten Haukom# (Jr.-Marshall, Minn.) scored six of the first 12 points, while #Katie Christensen# (Jr.-Elk River, Minn.) scored nine of the first 17 points as the Saints jumped out to a 25-5 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game. The CSS lead got as high as 22 on a few occasions, but the Storm scored six of the final seven points to cut St. Scholastica's halftime lead to 44-27.

The Saints shot 49-percent in the first half, while Crown shot just 37-percent. The Saints received 21 points from their bench in the half, including nine points by #Katie Kimm# (So.-Mora, Minn.). The Saints also out-scored the Storm 10-2 on second-chance points.

Crown went on a 9-2 run to cut the CSS margin down to 12 with 12:27 left to play. The Saints responded with a 10-2 run to extend the lead back to 20. CSS went on to cruise to a 77-51 victory.

The Saints shot a season-best 40-percent from the field for the game. The Storm shot 33-percent for the game. The St. Scholastica bench out-scored the Crown bench 30-5 in the game. The Saints also committed a season-low nine turnovers.

Kirsten Haukom (Marshall, Minn./Marshall HS) had a game-high 19 points to lead CSS. Katie Christensen (Elk River, Minn./Elk River Senior HS) added 13 points. #Jess Nichols# (So.-Stillwater, Minn.) had a team-high 12 rebounds. Stephanie Zroka had 13 points to pace Crown.

The Saints head to the upper peninsula of Michigan on Saturday to face Finlandia University in a non-conference contest. The action begins at noon central time.
