DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team fell at home tonight in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opener against Northwestern College by a score of 59-38.

The loss drops the Saints to 1-6 overall, while the Eagles improve to 2-6. The Saints are now 35-24 all-time against Northwestern.

The Eagles started the game on a 14-0 run in the first four minutes. #Erin Morstad# (Fr.-Fergus Falls, Minn.) gave the Saints their first points with a 3-pointer at 15:58. CSS out-scored the Eagles 10-4 to cut the lead to 18-10 halfway through the first half. However, the Eagles responded with an 11-0 run to extend their margin to 29-10. The Saints closed the half on a 6-0 run to make the halftime score 33-20 Northwestern.

The Saints shot 32-percent in the half, while the Eagles shot 46-percent. The Eagles had 15 points off of nine St. Scholastica turnovers.

CSS cut the margin down to 12 after #Kelly Cinquegrani# (So.-Buffalo, Minn.) lay-up with 16:22 to play. However, Northwestern answered with an 11-2 run to make the lead 21 and that would be the final margin as Northwestern won 59-38.

St. Scholastica finished with a 30-percent shooting percentage. The Eagles shot 39-percent. The Eagles out-scored the Saints 25-14 in points off turnovers.

#Kirsten Haukom# (Jr.-Marshall, Minn.) led the Saints with 11 points. Kelly Cinquegrani (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) added eight points. Katie DeWitt had a game-high 18 points for the Eagles.

The Saints will host Crown College tomorrow at Reif Gym in the Burns Wellness Commons. The tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
