MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team went down to Minneapolis tonight and defeated North Central University by a score of 66-41 to earn its first win on the campaign.

The Saints are now 1-5 overall, while the Rams fall to 0-5 overall. The Saints are 13-0 all-time against the Rams.

The first 10 minutes of the first half was tight until CSS went on a 10-0 run to take a 21-9 lead with seven minutes left in the half. The Saints went on a 10-2 run the last four minutes of the half to take a 35-19 lead into the locker room.

The Saints held the Rams to 20-percent shooting in the half, while the Saints shot 39-percent. The Saints scored 17 points off of 17 North Central turnovers in the first half.

St. Scholastica went on an 11-0 run to begin the second half to extend its lead to 46-19. The CSS lead got as high 29 points with 13 minutes to go in the game as the Saints cruised to a 66-41 victory.

The Saints shot 35-percent from the field for the game, while the Rams shot 33-percent. The Saints forced 43 North Central turnovers, which set a team record for most turnovers by an opponent in a game. The pervious record was 41 by Northern Michigan during the 1988 season.

#Kirsten Haukom# (Jr.-Marshall, Minn.) led the Saints with 19 points and eight rebounds. #Jess Nichols# (So.-Stillwater, Minn.) added 12 points and freshman #Shannon Lehikoinen# (Fr.-Superior, Wis.) had eight points. Naomi Sanon had a double-double for the Rams with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

The Saints will be back at the Burns Wellness Commons on Friday when they face Northwestern College in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opener for both teams. The tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
