GREEN BAY, Wis. – #Trevor Geiger# (Sr.-Salmon Arm, B.C.) netted his second hat trick of the season as the St. Scholastica hockey team upset sixth-ranked Oswego State (N.Y.) today by a score of 5-4 at the St. Norbert College Thanksgiving Tournament at the Cornerstone Community Center.

All nine goals would be scored in the second period. Oswego State was coming off a victory over St. Norbert College last night in a matchup of the last two NCAA Division III National Champions.

After a scoreless and penalty-free first period, action really picked up in the second. The Lakers got on the scoreboard first with an even-handed goal at the 15:45-mark. CSS went on the power-play and capitalized when #Jeff Gagnon# (Jr.-Quesnel, B.C.) scored at 13:06 to tie the score at 1-1. #Jordan Chong# (Jr.-North Vancouver, B.C.) and #Jordan Baird# (Jr.-Port McNeill, B.C.) had the assists.

Oswego State regained the lead 39 seconds later on a Joe Hall goal. Trevor Geiger (Salmon Arm, British Columbia/Salmon Arm (BCHL)) responded for the Saints with an even-handed goal at 10:49. Jordan Chong (North Vancouver, British Columbia/Dryden (SIJHL)) had the assist. It was Geiger again with 7:25 left in the period to put the Saints up 3-2. It was the two Jordan's (Chong and Baird) that assisted again.

The Lakers tied it at 3-3, 23 seconds later with a power-play goal. Oswego State regained the lead with less than four minutes to play in the second period with another power-play goal. The scoring was not done as #AJ Tucker# (Sr.-Fort Frances, Ont.) scored an even-handed goal with 2:27 left to tie the score at 4-4. #Jeremy Dawes# (Fr.-Winnipeg, Man.) had the assist.

Geiger then netted his second hat trick of the season with a power-play goal with 1:06 left in the period to make the score 5-4. Jeff Gagnon (Quesnel, British Columbia/Victoria (BCHL)) and Jordan Baird (Port McNeill, British Columbia/Victoria (BCHL)) had the assists. The Lakers got 11 shots on net in the third period, but #Steve Bounds# (Sr.-Airdrie, Alta.) stopped them all as the Saints prevailed 5-4.

Bounds had 21 saves to earn the win for CSS. Chris Hyk had 18 saves in the loss for the Lakers. St. Scholastica was 2-for-4 on the power-play, while Oswego State was 2-for-5.

The Saints improve to 7-3-1 overall this season, while the Lakers drop to also 7-3-1. This was the second meeting between the two teams with first game taking place during the 1993-94 season, in which the Lakers won 6-4.

The Saints return to Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) action next weekend when they travel to the Universities of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Stevens Point, Friday and Saturday nights respectively. The UW-Eau Claire matchup begins at 7 p.m. on Friday.
