CSS WOMEN LOSE TO DUBUQUE AT TURKEY SHOOTOUT

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team lost the opening game of the University of Wisconsin-Stout Super 8 Thanksgiving Turkey Shootout today to the University of Dubuque by a score of 77-51 at Johnson Fieldhouse.

The Saints fall to 0-4 this season, while the Spartans are now 2-2. This was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Dubuque scored the first seven points of today's contest. CSS first points came at the 11:48-mark on an #Alexa Leighton# (Jr.-Superior, Wis.) jumper. The Spartans went on a 15-2 run halfway through the half and went up by a score of 27-9 with five minutes before halftime. The margin got as high as 20 as Dubuque had a 37-21 halftime advantage.

St. Scholastica got the lead down to 13 minutes into the second half, but that is as close as it would get the rest of the way. The Spartans slowly grew their lead in the half and it got as high as 28 with eight minutes to play. Dubuque went on to win 77-51.

The Saints shot just 28-percent from the field, while the Spartans shot 42-percent. Dubuque out-rebounded the Saints 50-36. The Spartans out-scored the Saints 26-12 in the paint, including 18-4 in the first half.

#Kirsten Haukom# (Jr.-Marshall, Minn.) had 14 points to lead CSS. Alexa Leighton (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) added eight points off the bench. Leighton also had a team-high five rebounds. Jennifer Nichols had a game-high 19 points to lead the Spartans.

The Saints will face the loser of the Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) and University of Wisconsin-Stout game in the consolation game tomorrow morning at Johnson Fieldhouse. The game is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
