DAWES' OVERTIME GOAL GIVES SAINTS THE WIN

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Freshman #Jeremy Dawes# (Fr.-Winnipeg, Man.) scored 20 seconds into overtime to give the St. Scholastica hockey team a 4-3 victory this afternoon over Lawrence University at the St. Norbert Tournament at the Cornerstone Community Center.

The Saints improve to 6-3-1 this season, while the Vikings fall to 3-6-0. The Saints are now 5-1-1 all-time against the Vikings and have not lost to Lawrence in the last five meetings.

CSS struck first when #Daman Milsom# (Fr.-Kelowna, B.C.) scored his first collegiate goal with 7:34 remaining in the first period. #Jordan Chong# (Jr.-North Vancouver, B.C.) Jeremy Dawes (Winnipeg, Manitoba/College Jeanne Suave (Portage-MJHL) ) had the assists. The goal snapped Lawrence goaltender Evan Johnson's consecutive shutout streak at 192 minutes and 26 seconds.

The Saints went up 2-0 with five minutes left in the opening period when on the power-play Joey Martini (Calgary, Alberta/Canmore (AJHL)) (Sr.-Calgary, Alta.) netted a goal. #AJ Tucker# (Sr.-Fort Frances, Ont.) and #Carter Davis# (Fr.-Moose Jaw, Sask.) had the assists. There was a lot of action in the first 20 minutes as 28 of the 60 total shots on goal in the game took place in the period.

The Vikings cut the lead to 2-1 halfway through the second period on an even-handed goal by Jon Sacks. The score remained 2-1 until two minutes into the third period when the Vikings' Marc Howe scored a power-play goal to tie the contest at 2-2.

AJ Tucker (Fort Frances, Ontario/Waywayseecappo (MJHL)) gave the Saints the lead back with less than 13 minutes left with his fourth goal of the season. #Dustin DeGagne# (Jr.-Winnipeg, Man.) had the assist. Lawrence pulled its goaltender and would get a face-off in the Saints end in the final minute. The Vikings capitalized and scored with 21 seconds left on a Nick Jennette goal.

The game went to overtime, but would not last long as Jeremy Dawes (Winnipeg, Manitoba/College Jeanne Suave (Portage-MJHL) ) scored 20 seconds into the extra session to give St. Scholastica a 4-3 victory. AJ Tucker (Fort Frances, Ontario/Waywayseecappo (MJHL)) picked up his third point of the afternoon with the assist and Joey Martini (Calgary, Alberta/Canmore (AJHL)) also assisted the game-winning goal. CSS has not lost in 10 straight overtime games.

#Steve Bounds# (Sr.-Airdrie, Alta.) had 29 saves to improve to 6-3-1 this season. Evan Johnson had 24 saves in the loss for the Vikings. The Saints were 1-for-2 on the power-play, while Lawrence was 1-for-6.

The Saints will face sixth-ranked State University of New York (SUNY)-Oswego tomorrow at the Cornerstone Community Center. Oswego State won the 2007 Division III National Championship. The puck drops at 3:30 p.m.
