DULUTH, Minn. – #Joey Hughes# (Sr.-Springvale South, Australia) scored with 3:11 remaining in regulation to give the St. Scholastica hockey team a 1-0 victory over Lake Forest College tonight at Mars Lakeview Arena.

The Saints improve to 5-3-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). The Foresters fall to 2-8-0 overall and 0-4-0 in the NCHA. Barring a playoff matchup, this was the last time Lake Forest made the trip to Duluth as a NCHA member as it will be moving to the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA) next year.

There would be five power-play opportunities in the first period with the Foresters getting three chances and the Saints two, but neither team got the puck in the net as it was scoreless at the first intermission.

CSS was awarded a penalty shot opportunity just a minute into the second period, but Lake Forest goaltender Scott Campbell, who was stellar all night, made the save to keep the score 0-0. The game remained scoreless into the third period.

St. Scholastica dominated the third period out-shooting the Foresters 23-5. The Saints finally broke through when #Carter Davis# (Fr.-Moose Jaw, Sask.) played the puck behind the net, then sent it in front where Joey Hughes (Springvale South, Australia/Cowichan Valley (BCHL)) was first stopped, but got the rebound and put it in the net. It was Hughes' first goal of the season and his first since the 2006-07 season. #Dennis Kubat# (Fr.-Outlook, Sask.) also had the assist. The Foresters were unable to get the puck out of their zone in the final minute as the Saints went on to win 1-0.

CSS out-shot Lake Forest 49-22. #Steve Bounds# (Sr.-Airdrie, Alta.) had 22 saves for his second shutout of the season. Scott Campbell had 48 saves in the loss for the Foresters. Both teams were 0-for-4 on the power-play and there were 11 penalties in the contest.

The Saints will take part in the St. Norbert Thanksgiving Tournament next Friday and Saturday. The Saints will open with Lawrence University on Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the Cornerstone Community Center.
