MENOMONIE, Wis. – The 15th-ranked St. Scholastica hockey team broke open an1-1 game with three goals in the second period to defeat the 10th-ranked University Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils 5-2 tonight at Dunn County Ice Arena.
The Saints improve to 4-2-1 overall this season and 1-1-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). The Blue Devils fall to 5-4-0 overall and 0-2-0 in NCHA action.
CSS scored first halfway through the opening period when #Joey Martini# (Sr.-Calgary, Alta.) scored the first goal for the second straight night. #Jeremy Dawes# (Fr.-Winnipeg, Man.) and #AJ Tucker# (Sr.-Fort Frances, Ont.) had the assists. With 1:48 left in the first period UW-Stout tied it up when Joel Gaulrapp scored a power-play goal.
St. Scholastica then broke the game open with three goals in the final 11 minutes of the second period. The Saints only had four shots in the period. #Trevor Geiger# (Sr.-Salmon Arm, B.C.) broke the tie with a power-play goal at the 10:21-mark. #Dustin DeGagne# (Jr.-Winnipeg, Man.) had the assist.
#Aaron Spotts# (Jr.-Spokane, Wash.) then scored his second goal in as many games with an even-handed goal with less than four minutes remaining in the period. #Sam Yearsley# (Fr.-White Bear Lake, Minn.) and #Jordan Baird# (Jr.-Port McNeill, B.C.) had the assists. AJ Tucker (Fort Frances, Ontario/Waywayseecappo (MJHL)) added the third goal of the period one minute and 30 seconds later to make the score 4-1. Joey Martini (Calgary, Alberta/Canmore (AJHL)) had the assist.

UW-Stout out-shot CSS 38-27. #Steve Bounds# (Sr.-Airdrie, Alta.) had 36 saves in the win for the Saints. Jesse Pischlar had 22 saves in the loss for the Blue Devils. The Saints were 2-for-3 on the power-play, while the Blue Devils were 1-for-5. There were 10 penalties in the contest.
The Saints return hone next Friday when they square-off against the defending NCAA Division III National Champion St. Norbert College Green Knights at Mars Lakeview Arena. The action begins at 7:05 p.m.
