DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team took care of Presentation College this afternoon by a score of 5-1 at Saints Field.
Presentation only played with eight field players in the loss. With Presentation playing short-handed, it was just content to play defense and not try to attack offensively. The first goal of the contest came by way of an own goal in the 28th minute as CSS attempted a shot and a Presentation defender tried to head it out, but it went into the net. That would be the only goal of the first half.
Less than three minutes into the second half, CSS's #Cortney McKenzie# (Jr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) scored to make the score 2-0. #Angie Groh# (Jr.-Andover, Minn./St. Francis) had the assist. #Sara Olson# (Sr.-Phoenix, Ariz./Paradise Valley CC) added an unassisted goal in the 65th minute as she stole the ball in front of the net to make it 3-0.
#Robin Johnson# (Sr.-Duluth, Minn./Marshall) added her 12th goal of the season just 1:34 later to give St. Scholastica a 4-0 lead. #Nicole Brandt# (So.-Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) had the assist. Johnson now needs just one goal to tie the school record for career goals. She currently has 57 goals. The goal also put her into second place for career points with 147. She needs seven more point to tie the school's career record. #Melisa Entinger# (Jr.-Mound, Minn./Holy Trinity) finished the scoring for CSS with her first goal of the season in the 78th minute to make it 5-0.
Presentation would get its one and only scoring chance of the game in the waning moments as Christina Kusler scored on a breakaway to make the final score 5-1. CSS finished with 63 shots in the match, which sets a school record. The previous record was 61, which was set in 1995. #Erin Olejnicak# (Fr.-Brainerd, Minn.) earned the win in net for CSS to improve to 3-0-0 on the campaign.
CSS improves to 11-2-0 overall and remains unbeaten in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action at 7-0-0. Presentation falls to 1-7-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the UMAC. CSS is now 11-0-0 all-time against Presentation.
The Saints will take the field again on Friday when they host Bethany Lutheran College at Saints Field. The kickoff is scheduled for noon.
