MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – There were a lot of points scored this evening in the Metrodome on Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Dome Day, but the St. Scholastica football team was not the squad to come out on top as Martin Luther College defeated the Saints 77-42.

The scoring started on Martin Luther's (6-3) first possession when Greg Holzhueter ran it in for an 18-yard touchdown run. The Saints (1-6) answered on their first possession on a #Jake Olson# (Fr.-Esko, Minn.) 7-yard touchdown run. The Knights made the score 14-7 when it scored on the following possession on an Aaron Voss 28-yard touchdown run. After CSS was forced to punt, the Knights scored again when Holzhueter scored on 18-yard touchdown rush. After a Saints turnover, Martin Luther went up 27-7 when Holzhueter connected with Robert Kolander for a 37-yard touchdown.

The Saints responded on the next possession as #Christopher Henagin# (Jr.-Cloquet, Minn.) scored on a 6-yard touchdown run to make it 27-14. The St. Scholastica defense held Martin Luther on the proceeding possession and then the Saints offense had an impressive drive going 80 yards on 14 plays, capped off by a Jake Olson (Esko, Minn./Esko HS), #Mike VanMassenhove# (So.-Superior, Wis.) connection for a 26-yard touchdown to make the score 27-21.

The scoring continued in the third quarter. After the Saints punted on its first possession, the Knights made the score 34-21 on an Aaron Voss 4-yard touchdown run. It took CSS just 2:30 to respond when Jake Olson (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) scored his second rushing touchdown on a 21-yard scamper to make it 34-28.

The Knights came back 50 seconds later on a Voss 25-yard touchdown run. Just 35 seconds after that the Saints scored when Olson hooked up with VanMassenhove for a 58-yard touchdown strike to make the score 40-35. Martin Luther scored two minutes later and converted the two-point conversion to extend its lead to 48-35.

CSS then was forced to punt and Knights scored in two minutes again as it was now 56-35. After a Saints turnover, Martin Luther scored to make it 64-35. After the Knights intercepted a pass for a touchdown, the Saints scored its final touchdown of the night when Olson hit VanMassenhove for a third time to make it 70-42. Martin Luther added one more touchdown to make the final 77-42.

Martin Luther finished with 628 yards of total offense, including 422 yards on the ground. The Saints had 415 yards of total offense with 258 yards through the air. Both teams averaged over six yards per play. The Knights just had one punt in the contest.

Jake Olson (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) was 21-of-36 for 258 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 71 yards and two touchdowns. Christopher Henagin (Cloquet, Minn./Fond du Lac) rushed for 78 yards on 18 carries and had one touchdown. Mike VanMassenhove (Superior, Wis./Superior HS (Minn.-Duluth)) had eight catches for 158 yards and three touchdowns. #Jeremiah Martell# (Fr.-Somerset, Wis.) had 11 tackles to lead the Saints defense. #Doug Moore# (Fr.-Ladysmith, Wis.) had 10 tackles, including three for a loss and a 1.5 sack.

The Saints will face these same Martin Luther College Knights next Saturday at Public Schools Stadium for the season finale. The kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
