DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team claimed their second consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Regular Season Championship Friday afternoon with a 4-1 victory over Northland College on Saints Field.
Northland pulled ahead to an early lead with a goal on their only shot on goal of the game at the 12 minute mark, but the Saints answered within five minutes with a #Robbie Miller# (Jr-Duluth, Minn./Marshall School) goal, assisted by #Dustin James# (So.-Superior, Wis.) and #Toby Peter# (So.-Coon Rapids, Minn.). It was Miller's fourth goal of the season.
Peter scored a goal of his own on a penalty kick in the 36th minute as the Saints took a lead that they would not give up for the rest of the game.
#Brandon Stemwedel# (Fr.-Grand Rapids, Minn.) and #Courtney Bonnick# (Nottingham, England/Haywood School) scored goals in the first ten minutes of the second half to cap off the Saints scoring. #Asos Amin# (Fr.-Vasteras, Sweden/Redbeckianska School) assisted Stemwedel while James had his second assist of the game for Bonnick.
#Sam Reed# (Fr.-Eastbourne, England/Causeway School) earned the win in goal as Northland took only three shots with one on net. The Saints offense took 20 shots with eight aimed on target.
The Saints will host a UMAC Tournament Semifinal match on Tuesday against either Presentation College or Northwestern College. That match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at Saints Field.
