ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Scholastica volleyball team fell by a score of 3-0 tonight at Northwestern College in a battle of the two top teams in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC).

The Saints fall to 11-11 overall and to 7-3 in the UMAC. The Eagles improve to 19-5 overall and 10-0 in the UMAC. The Saints are 16-29 all-time against the Eagles.

CSS jumped out to a 12-7 lead in the first set; however, the Eagles rallied and took the set by a score of 25-19. The Saints had a 11-5 lead in the second set and led 18-15 before Northwestern went on a 7-0 run and took the set 25-21. The Eagles had a match-high 17 kills in the set.

The third set started out tight, but the Eagles pulled away and closed out the match by a score of 25-15. CSS's #Erin Niles# (Sr.-Grand Rapids, Minn.) tied the school record for career block assists (267) in the match. She tied LeAnn Berscheit ('03-'06) with three block assists on the night.

#Shawna Varichak# (Sr.-Hibbing, Minn.) had a team-high 10 kills and was tied with #Cassie Roden# (Sr.-Sauk Rapids, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral) with 12 digs. #Caitlin Aten# (Fr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) had 22 set assists.

The Saints will be at Crown College tomorrow. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
