ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team went on the road for the first time in six matches and came away with a 3-1 victory over Crown College this afternoon at Storm Field.
The Saints improve to 12-3-1 overall and 9-1 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The Storm drop to 4-9 overall and 2-7 in the league. CSS is now 18-1-1 all-time against Crown College with six straight victories.
The Saints got on the scoreboard in the 18th minute when #Courtney Bonnick# (Fr.-Nottingham, England) received a pass from #Brandon Stemwedel# (Fr.-Grand Rapids, Minn.) and put the ball in the net. That would be the lone goal in the first half as the stats were very close with Crown having an 8-7 shot advantage.
In the 58th minute, #Dustin James# (So.-Superior, Wis.) scored for the fifth straight match to make the score 2-0. #Jim Atol# (So.-Duluth, Minn./East) assisted on the goal. St. Scholastica scored a little over five minutes later when #Asos Amin# (Fr.-Vasteras, Sweden) scored his first collegiate goal to make the score 3-0. The Storm added a goal late and that was important because it was the first goal allowed by Saints goalkeeper #Zach Schneider# (So.-Duluth, Minn./Marshall) all season, snapping a streak of 638 minutes and 20 seconds without allowing a goal. However, it still wasn't enough as the Saints went on to win 3-1.
The Storm out-shot the Saints 17-16 in the match. It is the first time this season CSS has been out-shot and went on to win. Zach Schneider (Duluth, Minn./Marshall School) received the win in net as he stopped seven shots to improve to 7-0-0 on the campaign. Jay Clementson had nine saves in the loss for Crown.
The Saints will look to avenge their lone conference loss of the season when they face Northwestern College tomorrow. The match is scheduled to begin at approximately 2 p.m. following the women's match.
