DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team won its eighth consecutive match this afternoon with a 4-0 victory over Martin Luther College at Saints Field.
The Saints improve to 11-3-0 overall and 8-1-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). CSS has now held opponents scoreless for 621:47 consecutive minutes. The Knights fall to 6-4-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the conference. The Saints are now 17-9-0 al-time against the Knights and have won the last four meetings.
It was CSS's #Dustin James# (So.-Superior, Wis.) two and the rest of the Martin Luther team nothing at halftime as James scored both of the Saints goals in the half. James scored first in the 22nd minute unassisted and then added another with six seconds left in the half. #Marcos Contreras# (Fr.-White Bear Lake, Minn.) assisted on that goal. James has a total of 10 points in the last three matches.
A little over 10 minutes into the second half, James had a perfect corner kick that was headed in by #Bryan Olson# (Fr.-South St. Paul, Minn.) to make the score 3-0. That was Olson's first collegiate goal. #Rob Miller# (Jr.-Duluth, Minn./East) added the match's final goal with an unassisted goal at the 70:51-mark to make the final 4-0.
St. Scholastica had a 23-3 shot advantage in the match. #Zach Schneider# (So.-Duluth, Minn./Marshall) got the win in net as he still has not allowed a goal in 556:27 minutes this season. Alex Vandenberg had nine saves in the loss for Martin Luther.
The Saints will finish their six-match home stand on Tuesday with a non-conference matchup against Augsburg College. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Saints Field.
