DULUTH, Minn. – Sophomore #Toby Peter# (So.-Spalt, Germany/U.S. Bach Gym) had five points as the St. Scholastica men's soccer team defeated Macalester College for first time today by a score of 3-0 at Saints Field.

The win improves the Saints record to 7-3-0 record, while the Scots fall to 6-4-1. CSS had lost the previous four meetings to Macalester by a combined score of 13-1. The Saints improve to 3-2 against the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) this season.

The match would go scoreless in the first half with the Saints controlling the possession, but unable to make something happen. CSS had a 7-1 shot advantage in the first half, with six of the seven going on net. The Scots were unable to put the ball on net in the half.

The Saints broke the scoreless tie in the 59th minute when Toby Peter (Spalt, Germany/J.S. Bach Gymnasium) had a shot deflect off a defender and into the net to give CSS a 1-0 lead. #Brandon Stemwedel# (Fr.-Grand Rapids, Minn.) had the assist. It was Peter again who struck in the 76th minute when he received a give-and-go pass from #Joey Maida# (So.-Duluth, Minn./East) and went far corner past the goalkeeper to make the score 2-0. It was Peter's fifth goal of the season.

Then exactly at the 80 minute-mark, the Macalester goalkeeper came out of the net, but Peter got to the ball first and got around the goalkeeper and centered it to #Cody Sveiven# (So.-Coon Rapids, Minn.), who just got the ball past the retreating goalie to make the score 3-0. #KeOntay Berg# (So.-Isanti, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) along with Peter assisted on the goal. That is how it ended as the Saints picked up their first win against Macalester in the series history 3-0.

The five points by Peter is a season-high for the Saints in a single match. CSS goalkeeper #Sam Reed# (Fr.-Eastbourne, England/Causeway) just had to stop one shot to improve to 3-3-0 this season. Mark Mullaney had eight saves in the loss for the Scots. It was a physical match as there were 31 fouls and seven yellow cards combined between the two teams.

Next up for the Saints will be the University of Minnesota-Morris on Saturday for homecoming at Saints Field. The kickoff is scheduled for noon.
