Kirsten Haukom (Marshall, Minn./Marshall HS)'s basket at the 17:49 mark in the early going of Tuesday's non-conference match-up in Minneapolis between the Saints and North Central University gave the Saints a lead they wouldn't relinquish for the reminder of the game in their 53-44 road win over the Rams.

Haukom was the leading scorer for the Saints with 15 points, but the sophomore also pulled down seven rebounds, dished out four assists and registered five steals.

Following Haukom's early bucket St. Scholastica (6-11) increased their lead to as many as 17 before settling for a 13 point lead at 32-19 as the two teams went to the locker rooms at the half.

As time passed the midway point of the second half North Central began to cut into the lead, eventually pulling within three at 41-38 with 6:30 to play.

An Ashley Lubbers (Little Falls, Minn./Little Falls Community HS) steal turned into the beginning an an eight point run for the Saints, though, as first, Katie Cross (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS) sank a pair of free throws, then Haukom, Kelly Cinqeugrani, and Alexa Leighton (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) followed with baskets of their own to pump the lead to double-digits once again.

The Rams couldn't get any closer as the Saints held off the hosts over the remaining minutes for the nine point win.

Lubbers led the Saints with nine rebounds, and Leighton stepped up her offensive output with an 11 point, four rebounds, and five assist night.
