The nine day break since their last game -- a 6-0 win over Northland College -- couldn't help St. Scholastica (7-10-2, 2-5-1) on Friday night in Menomonie, Wis., as the ninth-ranked Blue Devils from Wis.-Stout (13-5-1, 5-3-0) rallied from a 1-0 deficit after the opening period to capture a 3-1 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association victory.

Trevor Geiger (Salmon Arm, British Columbia/Salmon Arm (BCHL))'s power play score with just under three minutes remaining in the first period put the Saints on top, but Stout scored twice within 36 seconds early in the second to wrest the lead from the visitors.

An early goal in the third made things even tougher on the Saints in what turned out to be a defensive outing for both teams.

The Saints put only 20 shots on goal in the game, 14 below their average and a few zip codes away from the 76 they pasted on the Northland goalie a little more than a week ago. Meanwhile, the Blue Devils were held to only 22 shots, three below what opponents have been averaging against the Saints, but three of those 22 found a way behind netminder Steve Bounds (Airdrie, Alberta/Powell River (BCHL)) who finished with 19 saves for CSS.

Mike Stone turned away 19 of the 20 shots he faced in goal for Stout in picking up the win.

The road doesn't get any easier for St. Scholastica as they travel next to No. 5 Wis.-River Falls for a Saturday evening matchup against a Falcons team that defeated Wis.-Superior 4-1 while the Saints and Blue Devils were playing.
