In a game that featured only one tie and one lead change St. Scholastica was on the losing side of a Upper Midwest Athletic Conference game featuring the hometown Saints and the visiting Saints from Presentation College, S.D.
St. Scholastica (4-9, 1-3 UMAC) started the game with a 7-0 run then led for all but the final 24 seconds, failing to secure a victory down the stretch against the visiting Presentation Saints (6-9, 3-1 fUMAC) losing 58-62.
Led in the first half by
Whitney Latham (Clear Lake, Minn./Becker HS)'s 12 points the home Saints went into the locker room with a 36-23 lead. Coming out in the second half the lead grew to 20 before the relentless Presentation team started cutting away at the large lead.
With increased defensive pressure and better execution on the offensive end Presentation played a cleaner game in the second half recording only three turnovers and forcing nine. Presentation was led by Callie Antonsen who was the games leading scorer with 23 points including 13 in the second half.
Down 18 with only 6:11 remaining in the second half Presentation heated up and found their defensive intensity and clawed their way back into the game. Shooting a scorching 53.8% from the field in the second half after managing only 27.6% in the first half Presentation outscored the Saints by 17.
With their lead dwindling St. Scholastica was unable to find its rhythm on offense and failed to score a point in the final 6:11. This opened the door for Presentation who made a pair of three pointers and clutch free throws down the stretch to make the game competitive.
With 24 seconds remaining a jump shot by Presentation's Telishia Devericks gave them their first lead of the contest. They held on in the final minute and built a four point lead for the win.
St. Scholastica was led offensively by Latham (14 points, 6 assists),
Alexa Leighton (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) (13 points), and
Kirsten Haukom (Marshall, Minn./Marshall HS) who recorded a double-double with 12 points. 10 rebounds).
Presentation was led by Antonsen (23 points) and Chelsea Brandlee (20 points).
