The Saints got on the winning track within the conference on Saturday afternoon with a crushing 71-37 defeat of host Crown College in St. Bonifacius, Minn.

The Purple Storm (3-6, 0-3 UMAC) tied the Saints at 2-2 and 4-4 early in the match-up, but from that point on it was all St. Scholastica (4-8, 1-2 UMAC).

After breaking out to a 12 point margin at the half, 34-22, the Saints outscored their hosts 37 to 15 over the last 20 minutes in building up to their 34 point winning margin.

Every healthy player got on the floor for the Saints in the blowout victory with senior Whitney Latham (Clear Lake, Minn./Becker HS) leading the team in scoring on the night. Her 18 points was only three above her season average but it was in 24 minutes of action, roughly two-thirds of her normal playing time.

Kirsten Haukom (Marshall, Minn./Marshall HS) and Kelly Cinquegrani (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) also reached double-figures in scoring for St. Scholastica. Haukom chipped in with 13 while Cinquegrani, a freshman, had a career-high 10 in the winning effort.

Crown was led by Mary DeVries who scored 20 of her team's 37 points. Only four other Purple Storm players registered a point.

St. Scholastica shot 52 percent from the field -- 50 percent in the opening half and 54 percent in the second, the first time this season that they've eclipsed the 50 percent barrier in both halves of a game.

Rebounding was surprisingly equal in the game, though the Saints did pull down five more than Crown, but St. Scholastica forced 22 Crown turnovers in the game and scored 22 points off Storm turnovers.

Next up for the Saints is a pair of home dates on the weekend of Jan. 18 and 19 when Presentation College visits the Reif Gymnasium in the Burns Wellness Commons on Friday night followed by Minn.-Morris on Saturday afternoon.
