The Saints went the dangerous route in their UMAC contest at Northwestern College on Friday night -- falling behind early and big while on the road -- and though they played a strong second half, St. Scholastica was handed a 69-55 defeat at the hands of the Eagles in the Ericksen Center in St. Paul.

St. Scholastica (3-8 overall, 0-2 UMAC) shot an abysmal 28 percent (8-of-29) in the first half to help Northwestern (4-9, 2-0 UMAC), who shot 45 percent, pull out to a 34-21 halftime lead.

The Saints improved to 37 percent from the field in the second half, but unfortunately the Eagles upped the ante as well improving to 52 percent which kept the hard-charging visitors from gaining any ground.

Whitney Latham (Clear Lake, Minn./Becker HS) led the Saints with 11 points on the night, the sixth time she's been the team's top score, but the Eagles held her to four points below her season average of 15 points per game.

Kirsten Haukom (Marshall, Minn./Marshall HS) also reached double-figures for the Saints in the loss, scoring 10 points and coming down with five rebounds, while Katie Cross (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS) pulled down a game-high 12 board for St. Scholastica.

A trio of Northwestern players reached double-digits in scoring led by Ariel Liesch's 13 points and Kaelee Kendrick's 12.

The Saints will stay on the road for their next game, playing at Crown College on Saturday night where they'll try to end a two-game losing skid.
