No. 9 EAU CLAIRE MAKES EARLY GOAL HOLD UP AGAINST SAINTS

Box Score

In a steady rain on a chilly Saturday at the Cobber Invitational, the Saints and the ninth-ranked Blugolds from UW-Eau Claire battled both each other and the elements.

With rain creating puddles across the pitch negating a precise passing game, the contest evolved into a dump and chase game, one in which the Saints are unaccustomed to playing.

Early on the Blugolds snuck one past all-conference candidate Kelly Momsen (Austin, Minn./Austin HS) in goal for the Saints and with conditions as they were, smartly settled into a boot-it-out defense shutting the door on the Saints who had only three shots the entire game with only one making it on frame.

Momsen finished with five saves in the wet affair while her counterpart in the Blugolds goal, Allie Rivard, earned the win making only one save.

Still, the Saints (1-1-1) challenged the undefeated Blugolds (4-0-0) and were within one boot of tying the nationally-ranked squad that won the WIAC last season and made a brief run in the postseason at the NCAA D-III national tournament.
