Box Score Without allowing a single shot by the host Knights of Martin Luther College, the visiting Saints scored early -- a Kristen Stangel (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids HS) goal in the 2nd minute -- and didn't slow down over the 90-minute game as they scored their eighth and final goal with less than two minutes to play in an 8-0 whitewash Saturday afternoon in New Ulm, Minn.
St. Scholastica (9-2-1, 7-0-0 UMAC) wound up with 51 shots, 29 on goal, in the dominating victory over Martin Luther (3-9-0, 2-5-0 UMAC).
Stangel's goal came at the 1:40 mark after she corralled a rebound from teammate Shannon Kresky (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS)'s shot.
Robin Johnson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School) briefly took the team lead in goals with back to back scores in the 15th and 18th minute for her fourth and fifth of the season, but Sarah Bartlette (East Grand Forks, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's) jumped back ahead with her own back to back scores in the 21st and 33rd minutes for a team-leading six goals.
Kresky, who got the assist on the Stangel goal as well as Bartlette's first, finally picked up a score herself in the 48th minute off a Stangel assist.
Victoria Witrak (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School) put the Saints up 7-0 with a goal, her second of the season, in the 86th minute and then sophomore All-UMAC defender Cortney McKenzie (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) netted her first collegiate goal to close out the win with a long blast past Knights keeper Amanda Koch 1:08 from the end of the game.
The Saints took 26 shots in the first half and 25 more in the second and had six corner kick opportunities to none by the host Knights.
With the shutout victory, Saints keeper Kelly Momsen (Austin, Minn./Austin HS) recorded her 19th career shutout to tie the program's all-time mark set by current assistant coach Kristin Lammi-Goorhouse (2001-05).
The shutout also completes a weekend in which the Saints scored 14 goals without allowing one over two games. Combined in their two victories, St. Scholastica took 84 shots with 51 on goal while their opponents managed just two shots and only one on frame.
