SECOND HALF EXPLOSION LEADS SAINTS TO VICTORY

Box Score

It took half a game for the Saints to find a way to get one into the back of the net, but once they got going they were nearly unstoppable on Friday afternoon in Mankato, Minn.

St. Scholastica (8-2-1, 6-0-0 UMAC) scored all six goals in the second half of their 6-0 win over Bethany (3-6-1, 3-3-0 UMAC).

They out shot the Vikings 16 to one in the opening half but Bethany goalkeeper Katie Renner stopped each of the 10 shots that made it on frame to hold the score at a draw entering the break.

Finally, only six minutes into the second half, Robin Johnson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School) scored her fifth goal of the season to put the Saints on the scoreboard. Sophomore Angie Groh (Andover, Minn./St. Francis HS) added an assist on the game-winning goal.

A calm 14 minutes followed before Sarah Bartlette (East Grand Forks, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's) began a rush of goals that broke the game open.

Bartlette scored the fifth of her season in the 65th minute with an assist from Johnson. Then Shannon Kresky (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) took a pass from Sara Olson (Phoenix, Ariz./Paradise Valley CC) and found the netting three minutes later.

Olson picked up another assist less than a minute later as Bartlette added her second goal of the game, her team-leading sixth.

Melissa Entinger closed out the scoring over the final 11 minutes with her second and third goals of the year. Becky Bowerman assisted on the first while Entinger's second was unassisted.

Strong play from the back row through the midfield helped clear the area in front of Saints sophomore keeper Kelly Vilen who needed to make only one save on the two shots Bethany managed over 90 minutes.

The win keeps the Saints unbeaten in the conference and on top of the UMAC standings. It's also the team's 35th consecutive regular season UMAC victory.
