SAINTS MANAGE WIN OVER HOST VIKINGS

A sluggish start against Bethany Lutheran College left the Saints behind early before they scored twice before halftime in their 2-1 win over the Vikings in Mankato, Minn., late Friday afternoon.

Bethany (2-6-2, 1-4-1 UMAC) surprised the Saints (8-1-0, 6-0-0 UMAC) and scored in the 4th minute for the early lead on the scoreboard.

Eight minutes later, though, St. Scholastica's Cody Sveiven (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) knotted things up with his team-leading sixth goal of the year. Toby Peter (Spalt, Germany/J.S. Bach Gymnasium) and Robbie Miller added assists.

Dustin James (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) put the Saints ahead with his third goal of the season, scoring off assists from Jimmy Atol and Peter in the 37th minute, and the Saints entered the intermission with a 2-1 lead.

Over the final 45 minutes the Saints got the better of play on the field, out shooting the Vikings nine to three and gaining seven corner kick chances while holding Bethany to none.

St. Scholastica goalie Adam Whitehead (Pickering, Ont./Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School) needed only make one save in each half to preserve the lead for the Saints and keep them undefeated in UMAC action.

For the game, St. Scholastica totaled 21 shots and a season-high 16 corner kick opportunities while Bethany managed seven shots and just one, first half corner kick chance.
