Box Score Behind freshman Toby Peter (Spalt, Germany/J.S. Bach Gymnasium)'s third goal of the season the Saints were able to hang on to win a 1-0 game over visiting Crown College on Friday afternoon at Duluth's Public Schools Stadium.
The game was not as close as the score indicated as St. Scholastica (5-1-0, 3-0-0 UMAC) out shot the Purple Storm (5-2-0, 1-2-0 UMAC) 23 to seven in the game, had eight corner kicks to Crown's three, and played most of the game in the Crown end of the field.
The only goal of the game came in the 19th minute and was a result of pinpoint passing as freshman Jimmy Atol sent a cross from near the right side line deep in Crown's end that sailed towards the left side of the goal where freshman Cody Sveiven (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) one-touched the ball to Peter who easily tapped it in behind keeper Jay Clementson, just inside the left post.
Numerous times throughout the remainder of the game the Saints would threaten with set pieces off corner kicks as players like Dustin James (Superior, Wis./Superior HS), Abe Pattee (Winona, Minn./Winona Senior HS), and Ian Linder (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) would out-leap Crown defenders and send header shots just high or just wide of the goal.
Back in the Saints' defensive end, senior keeper Adam Whitehead (Pickering, Ont./Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School) made three saves to keep Crown off the scoreboard and earn the win, his 22nd career shutout. Last season Whitehead had 10 shutouts for a single-season team record and broke the program's career mark which had been 17. Clementson took the loss in goal for Crown after making nine saves.
