SAINTS FALL IN DOUBLE-OVERTIME AT MACALESTER

Box Score

With both host Macalester College and St. Scholastica each ranked in the Central Region, No. 7 and No. 16, respectively, expectations for a closely played game were high on Tuesday night under the lights in Saint Paul.

The Scots and Saints delivered on those expectations as the two battled without scoring a goal through 90 minutes of regulation, 10 minutes of one overtime period, and then a little more than nine minutes more of a second 10 minute overtime before someone would finally break the deadlock.

Unfortunately for St. Scholastica (4-2-1) it was Macalester (4-1-0) that scored on a breakaway give and go with 32 seconds left in the second OT, winning the marathon by a 1-0 score.

The Scots dominated offensively most of the game. They out shot the Saints 10 to two in the first half, nine to one in the second half, one to none in the first overtime, and finally six shots to none in the final overtime.

Still, only 11 Macalester shots made it on frame and into the waiting hands or body of Saints keeper Kelly Momsen (Austin, Minn./Austin HS) who kept her team in the game with 10 saves until the Scots outnumbered her in close on their final, winning shot.

In their only two losses of the season -- both by 1-0 scores -- St. Scholastica has been defeated by a team currently ranked No. 8 in the country, UW-Eau Claire, and by the Scots who received the 34th most points in the latest national poll at d3Kicks.com.
