Box Score The Saints and Cougars from UM-Morris tangled three times last year, twice in the regular season and then again in the UMAC Tournament final, and it took Morris 287 minutes and 38 seconds before they could score a goal. Unfortunately for the Saints -- after winning each regular season match-up by 2-0 scores -- that one goal came in overtime of the tournament, a 1-0 sudden-death win that enabled Morris to capture the tournament title.
So when Andre Carroll-Franck scored in the 16th minute of Saturday's game at Morris to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead, it could have been a signal of change between the two teams.
Right before the first half ended, however, the Saints drew even when junior transfer Sara Olson (Phoenix, Ariz./Paradise Valley CC) scored an unassisted goal with less than one minute to go. It was Olson's first goal as a Saint and couldn't have been more important.
That was because Morris came out and scored again just 10 minutes into the second half to go up 2-1. Without Olson's late half heroics, the Saints could have been in dire straits, down two and on the road.
As it was, they were only a Robin Johnson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School) goal away from tying things up, which is what the junior did in the 66th minute off a feed from senior teammate Shannon Kresky (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS).
Twice Morris had the Saints on the ropes and twice, the Saints battled back. Now the Saints just needed to complete the come back and in the 81st minute, sophomore Angie Groh (Andover, Minn./St. Francis HS) answered the call with her second goal of the season, this one coming off a pass from Olson who had a three-point game in the Saints' 3-2 victory.
St. Scholastica keeper Kelly Momsen (Austin, Minn./Austin HS) picked up the win after making seven saves.
With the win, the Saints improved to 3-1-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the UMAC. Morris dropped to 3-1-1 and 0-1-0 with the loss.
