He finished the 2005 season with an all-conference performance in the UMAC Championship meet. But in 2006
Chris Rubesch (Spooner, Wis./Spooner HS) experienced an early season injury that lingered all season long, a frustrating one for the current senior.
At the Tom Barry Invite in Green Bay, Wis., on Saturday morning, Rubesch made a statement that this 2007 season should be more like his 2005 one.
Leaving behind the disappointment of 2006, Rubesch raced to a 9th place finish over the 4-mile course to lead the Saints across the finish and to a third place at this year's Invite.
Junior Tyler Kjorstad (Duluth, Minn./Marshall School) (19th place) finished next for the Saints putting two St. Scholastica runners in the top-20 of the 125 participants in the race. Sophomore Chase Caywood (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) (27th) was sandwiched between a pair of freshmen newcomers to the squad as Waylon Manske (Lindstrom, Minn./Bemidji HS) (22nd) and Paul Quiram (Esko, Minn./Cloquet Christian Academy) (30th) rounded out the scoring places for St. Scholastica.
Ripon College and host St. Norbert tied atop the race standings with 43 points followed by the Saints with 106 points.
