The first major snowstorm of the season hit Duluth late Saturday morning, pouring inches of new snow on the quiet streets. Inside Romano Gymnasium on the campus of UMD, the Division-II Bulldogs overcame a halftime deficit to the D-III Saints by raining down 3-pointer after 3-pointer in the second half of their 81-70 victory.

In a tale of two halves, St. Scholastica (1-3) was 7-for-11 behind the 3-point arch in the opening 20 minutes while building a 37-34 lead over the host Bulldogs. The Saints, in fact, hit more shots behind the 3-point line (7) than they did from inside (5). They were also a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line.

Minn.-Duluth battled back in the second half behind a 73 percent (8-of-11) shooting percentage from behind the 3-point arc. The Saints, in contrast, hit only one of their five shots behind the line.

The Saints were able to hold on to their slim halftime lead through nearly five minutes of the second half before the Bulldogs grabbed a 51-49 lead on one of their many 3-point field goals.

With the Saints trailing by only one at 54-53, UMD put together a 13-0 run to break the game open using three 3-pointers. Their lead stretched to 17 before the Saints trimmed the lead to its final 11 point margin over the final five minutes.

The Saints shot 46 percent from the field in the loss while the Bulldogs used their hot shooting in the second half to finish at 54 percent. UMD also out rebounded the smaller Saints 40 to 20.

St. Scholastica's Eric Langdon (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet Senior HS) had a game-high 22 points while teammate Brady Zubke (Laporte, Minn./Park Rapids Area HS) added 13 points.

Jordan Schade led UMD with 19 points which included five 3-point field goals.
