SAINTS SWEEP SEASON SERIES AGAINST MORRIS WITH SHUTOUT VICTORY

Box Score
St. Scholastica picked up another big win to close out their weekend, a victory that could go a long way in determining the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference regular season crown.

Sunday's 1-0 win over visiting Minnesota-Morris at Duluth's Public Schools Stadium further widens the gap between first place St. Scholastica (11-2-0, 9-0-0 UMAC), the third place Cougars from Morris (10-3-0, 5-3-0 UMAC), and second place Presentation College (9-4-0, 6-2-0 UMAC) whom the Saints beat 3-1 Saturday afternoon in Duluth.

Morris and the Saints played a scoreless first half that saw end to end action but was also without many scoring opportunities. St. Scholastica did, however, out shoot the Cougars six to two in the half.

The Saints finally broke through in the 59th minute when Robbie Miller tapped a pass backward from deep in the box back out to teammate Greg Doornink (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park HS) just inside the top of the box where Doornink was able to launch a rocket into the far, right corner of the Cougar netting for his first goal of the season.

That score proved to be the game-winner as play mimicked the opening frame over the final 30 minutes — more end to end play but few shots on goal.

The Saints have now swept the season series against their two closest conference competitors and own a two game lead atop the UMAC standings with five conference games to play, two of which will be on their home turf.
