Box Score Friday afternoon's 3-1 victory over the host Eagles from Northwestern College (6-9-2, 6-5-2 UMAC) ensured St. Scholastica (14-3-0, 12-0-0 UMAC) will finish the regular season atop the league standings and as the host for the postseason conference tournament held November 3rd and 4th at Duluth's Public Schools Stadium.
Andrew Ndekwe (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis South HS)'s third goal of the season put the Saints ahead in the 25th minute Friday. Both Greg Doornink (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park HS) and Toby Peter (Spalt, Germany/J.S. Bach Gymnasium) picked up assists on the first goal. Peter would have a hand, or foot, in all three Saints scores.
Ten minutes after Ndekwe's goal Peter put St. Scholastica up 2-0 with his ninth of the year off assists from Cody Sveiven (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) and Robbie Miller.
Northwestern trimmed the margin to 2-1 with a score 45 seconds from the end of the first half but Sveiven, from Peter, would restore the two goal lead in the game's 72nd minute.
Peter's four point game kept him in the lead of the team's scoring race, upping the freshman's season total to 28 points, two points ahead of Miller and three in front of Sveiven.
Adam Whitehead (Pickering, Ont./Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School) picked up the win for the Saints in goal with six saves. In defeat, Northwestern's Danny Kink would also finish with six saves.
Last season the Saints finished second in the final conference standings but captured the UMAC tournament title with an epic double-overtime victory over Northwestern. This year's win over those same Eagles guarantees the Saints will finish no worse than one game ahead of second place Presentation College (8-3-0 UMAC) with only two league games remaining on both team's schedules.
