Box Score St. Scholastica (13-2-0, 11-0-0 UMAC) added another victory to their bid for a conference championship by defeating the visiting Bethany Lutheran College Vikings (6-7-2, 4-5-1 UMAC) by a score of 2-0 at Public Schools Stadium in Duluth on Saturday.
It was literally a battle for St. Scholastica today, as the teams combined for 17 fouls in the game, but the Saints came out on top courtesy of a pair of goals from a pair of freshmen.
Cody Svieven netted a goal late in the first half courtesy of a well-placed Robbie Miller drop pass in front of the net to beat the diving Viking goalkeeper, with an additional assist going to Jimmy Atol.
As the second half began, Atol had some scoring of his own to add as he, assisted by Michael Cheney (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS), buried his first goal of the season into the back of the net with a shot to the far left corner of the Bethany goal.
Goalkeeper Adam Whitehead (Pickering, Ont./Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School) made three saves while recording his seventh shutout of the season for a total of 25 on his career. The Saints allowed a mere four shots during the contest.
The Saints have three conference games remaining in the UMAC schedule and own a three game lead over second place Presentation College (7-3-0 UMAC), a team St. Scholastica defeated both times the two met earlier in the regular season.
