Notables-Saints win nine event titles
-Hovland breaks two meet records
SUPERIOR, Wis. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's track & field team won the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Indoor Championship for the seventh straight year on Saturday.
Day 1On Friday night,
Casey Hovland (North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS) won the 5,000m run title finishing in a meet record time of 18:03.32. Hovland beat the rest of the field by over a minute.
Jordan Johnson (Poplar, Wis./Northwestern HS) was second and
Kali Erickson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) third
The 4x200m relay team of
Sammi Argir (Chisholm, Minn./Hibbing HS),
Breanna Shofner (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS),
Nicole Schommer (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS) and
Rachel Harmston (Cook, Minn./North Woods HS) captured the UMAC title with a time of 1:47.97.
Nicole Christianson (Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) won the high jump, clearing 5'1.75" (1.57m).
Hailey Fentem (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) was third in that event. Christianson also placed third in the long jump with a mark of 16'1" (4.90m).
Shofner was second in the 400m dash with a personal-best time of 1:00.30.
Emily Lundgren (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin HS) placed third in that event with a personal-best time of 1:01.34.
The Saints led after day one with 97 points. The University of Minnesota Morris was second with 65.5 points.
Day 2Hovland set another meet record in the 3,000m run with a winning time of 10:28.22. She beat her teammate
Jordan Johnson (Poplar, Wis./Northwestern HS), who was second, by 28 seconds.
Hannah Russert (Caledonia, Minn./Caledonia HS ) won the UMAC title in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.49. Argir went on to win the 200m dash with a season-best time of 26.42. Shofner was third at 26.98. Argir was also third in the 60m dash, posting a season-best time of 8.21.
The 4x400m relay team of Argir,
Taylor Gibson (La Crescent, Minn./La Crescent HS), Shofner and
Emily Lundgren (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin HS) won with a time of 4:05.56.
Emily Conley (Marinette, Wis./Marinette HS) captured the shot put title with a season-best toss of 40'5.5" (12.33m).
Katharine Roetering (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) won the pole vault title via a tiebreaker, clearing a personal-best height of 10'4.25" (3.16m).
Gibson was second and Lundgren third in the 800m run. Gibson's time was 2:21.85 and Lundgren's time was 2:22.78. Christianson was second in the triple jump with a mark of 35'3.75" (10.76m).
Final Team ScoresThe Saints won with 246 points. The University of Minnesota Morris was second with 173 points. The University of Wisconsin-Superior was third with 126.5 points and Bethany Lutheran College fourth with 83.5 points.
